Nice, hit fourteen miles Friday morning. It was great to get up and get out of the house before 6am and take to the streets. Watching the city wake up on a workday as I jogged from the burbs into downtown and back was a treat. Buddy - my running companion seemed to enjoy the whole thing just as much. After six miles or so, we passed a Brown Bear car wash where they had some of those little bear statues out front, Buddy into the groove of the run and the hunt got all freaked out and started growling and barking at the things... hilarious!! There we are at 6:30 in the morning, Buddy not letting us go forward any further so he could take the time to bark and growl at the Brown Bear car wash statue! I wish I would have snapped a photo...
I've been swamped with work lately, lots of reading on the treadmill and bike downstairs. I haven't made it out for a run in a week though! I got out last week for a few laps around Greenlake. It was a good run, 9 miles, 1.5hrs - but I'm excited to get out for something longer tomorrow!
But it won't be long!! Today was awesome... I had a bit of a break in my schedule and it didnt' look like the Seattle Sunshine would be out, so I grabbed the dog (buddy) and decided to go for a little jaunt.
Well three miles in I was feeling pretty good, we were running a familiar loop by my house so I knew what coming back would feel like. We felt good though - some good tunes blaring in the headphones, buddy healing perfectly, and the sun in the sky. So we kept going - we hit the waterfront and saw that a lot of people were out running at 10am in the morning. A little awkward I guess that there were so many people out for a jog at 10am on Friday - but hey we were having fun so why couldn't they.
Running through the mess of people and watching a few slog through their run I got an idea for a new route to take home - just three more miles along the waterfront, then up through the university, down by the lake, and then home. Couldn't be too bad....
Well by the time we hit campus, we both knew it was going to be a ways home - a mix of hills, cement, trail, and a variety of stop lights and car dodging.... but we kept on, the sun was still out and it wasn't even noon yet!
I was really feeling it by now, one of the things I was focusing on was my running technique. Working on keeping my knees bent and balls of my feet landing first. I have been working on it for a while, but by the time we hit the lake, my muscles were feeling tired yet none of my body hurt at all - this was great!! I was hoping I wouldn't end up with too many blisters as that is what has happened every other time I've tried it.
